In December, the Big Hole Watershed Committee launched our first membership campaign. We are inviting you to join our organization and help us keep the Big Hole River the magnificent area that attracts so many each year.

In the last year we have accomplished much:

  • Pushed for initiation of the Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances program to protect the Big Hole’s fluvial Arctic grayling.  This program will hopefully become a national model for recovery of endangered species through mutual cooperation among landowners, conservation groups and the government.

  • Initiated the reconnection of lower Rock Creek and the main Big Hole River near Wisdom to improve habitat for fluvial Arctic grayling, the last native population in the lower 48-states.

  •  Worked tirelessly to improve stream flow during the hot, dry summers of 2005 & 2006.  Our Drought Management Plan has become a model for other watersheds all across Montana.

  • Funded $428,000 in Big Hole River habitat and riparian projects; including riparian fencing, development of off-stream stock watering facilities, installation of fish ladders, pool development, willow planting and stream bank stabilization.

  • Facilitated a five-year public process to develop the Four-County Development Plan. This visionary plan coordinates streamside development in the Big Hole among the four different counties that have jurisdiction over portions of the river.

  • Incorporated and became a 501(c) 3 charitable organization.

Unfortunately none of this is possible without your support.  While money for projects is available, funds to administer these programs and manage the organization is far more difficult to obtain. Your support, through our membership program is critical to continuing the operations of the Big Hole Watershed Committee.

We have numerous membership categories to choose from including introductory, lifetime and corporate membership categories.  Life members, known as Grayling Life Supporters, receive a complimentary Winston Boron II fly rod; other membership categories receive Big Hole Watershed Committee apparel with our new logo, as a token of our appreciation. Regardless of your membership level, you will receive our quarterly newsletter, invitations to social events and be supporting the premier community based group in the Big Hole Basin.

We urge you to join and support the Legacy Project.  Remember, your membership contribution is tax deductible!
