This
year, the Orvis Company has chosen to support the Big Hole Watershed
Committee’s grayling recovery work for its 2007 conservation award.
What this means for the Big Hole is a guaranteed contribution of
$30,000 from Orvis, with an additional matching challenge grant from
Orvis customers. In addition, the Orvis contribution will be matched by
the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, for a total contribution of
~$90,000.
This
funding will support our recovery efforts for the fluvial Arctic
grayling. The project focuses on restoring riparian and instream habitat
on the critical seven-mile reach of the Big Hole River at Wisdom and
reconnecting and restoring Rock Creek. Already, the Rock Creek
reconnection phase has been accomplished.
Orvis
donates 5% of
pre-tax profits annually to organizations that protect fish and wildlife
habitat. Over the last five years, Orvis has donated nearly $5 million
to these organizations, including Trout Unlimited, The Nature
Conservancy, Coastal Conservation Association, Ducks Unlimited, The
Conservation Fund, Ruffed Grouse Society, and The Atlantic Salmon Fund.
The Big Hole Watershed Committee is honored to be among those receiving
recognition and support from the Orvis Company.
