BHWC’s August monthly meeting was held Wednesday, August 17th, 2022 at the Divide Grange Hall. It was also available via Zoom thanks to a partnership with Southern Montana Telephone Company, who donates WiFi for the Grange Hall. Our meetings are always open to the public and include refreshments and time for discussion. Coffee for our monthly meetings is donated by Black Coffee Roasting Company in Missoula.
The meeting included committee updates, project reports, and more. We were joined Cliff Bradley and Egan Jankowski-Bradley with Montana BioAgriculture, who told us all about their pilot study at Elkhorn Mine (of which BHWC is a partner). Cliff and Egan are piloting the use of mycelium, which is a root-like network of fungal threads, to capture metals in the Acid Mine Drainage seeping from the historic Elkhorn Mine. After successfully removing metals in a lab setting, the team will soon be testing the technique in the field.
