BHWC met August 21st, 2024 at the Divide Grange Hall. The meeting was also available via Zoom thanks to a partnership with Southern Montana Telephone Company, who donates WiFi for the Grange Hall. Our monthly meetings are always open to the public and include refreshments and time for discussion. Coffee for our monthly meetings is donated by Black Coffee Roasting Company in Missoula.
We were joined by Erica Hansen and Teagan Hayes with Intermountain West Joint Venture, who gave us an update on new science from the IWJV and partners that shows that flood irrigation of grass-hay on private agricultural land supports nearly 60% of temporary wetlands in the Intermountain West. IWJV staff shared the results of recent studies that highlighted the ecosystem benefits provided by flood irrigation in these systems and the importance to wildlife like sandhill cranes.
