Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks announced a full fishing closure on Big Hole River Section I: Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadows Road to North Fork Big Hole River Mouth, effective Tuesday, September 15th, 2020 at 2pm. River closure & reopening criteria are described in the Big Hole River Drought Management Plan. River closures protect the fishery during times of stress caused by low flows and high temperatures.
From FWP:
Effective 2:00 p.m. September 15, 2020
“Per authority delegated by the F&W Commission during their April 26, 2007 meeting, and based on discussions with Fisheries Division staff, a full fishing closure will soon be in effect for portions of the Big Hole River from Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadow Road to the North Fork Big Hole River.
Flows on the Big Hole River at the USGS gauge 06024450 Big Hole River bl Big Lake Creek at Wisdom, MT fell below 20 cfs for 24 consecutive hours. This satisfies angling-closure criterion contained in the Big Hole River Watershed Committee Drought Plan.
These restrictions will remain in place until lifted by FWP administrative action in consultation with the Big Hole Watershed Committee, or until October 31, 2020, at which time the restrictions will no longer remain in effect.”
