Background: Cloud seeding, also known as weather modification, is a somewhat controversial method of increasing precipitation by “seeding” clouds (i.e. injecting them) with Silver iodide, causing them to release precipitation. The practice is used in some of Montana’s neighboring states, but has not yet gained traction in Montana. The Big Hole Watershed Committee is interested in learning more about cloud seeding and facilitating community understanding of the topic, which has interesting potential for future water supply management.
