We are very proud to release this short documentary on our work to restore the French Gulch and Moose Creek tributaries of the Big Hole River. After 150 years of intensive gold mining, French Gulch now flows freely in its last 3 miles, thanks to a major restoration project undertaken by the Big Hole Watershed Committee in partnership with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
See the film and find out more here: https://www.bhwc.org/projects/french-gulch-restoration.
Thank you to our main partners, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the engineers at Morrison-Maierle for a great project!
The project took four years to fund and one year to execute, all coordinated by BHWC, who brought in 9 funding sources and oversaw 21 contractual agreements to get it all done. The scale of the project and our team’s insistence on creating a fully functioning system will have positive benefits for water quality, wildlife and fish habitat and recreation opportunities for generations to come.
