All sections of the Big Hole River are reopened to fishing (Hoot Owl Restrictions lifted) effective today, August 27, 2020. Sections II, IV, and V were previously on Hoot Owl Restrictions (no fishing 2pm-midnight) to protect the fishery during times of heat stress. Thankfully, cooler temperatures and rainfall have improved conditions! Happy fishing and thank you to everyone who sacrificed to protect our precious Big Hole River fishery!
Big Hole River sections, Hoot Owl triggers, and reopening criteria are defined in the Big Hole River Drought Management Plan.
