BHWC’s November monthly meeting was held Wednesday, November 17th, 2021 at the Divide Grange Hall. It was also available via Zoom thanks to a partnership with Southern Montana Telephone Company, which donated WiFi for the Grange Hall.
Our November meeting included committee updates, project reports, and more. We were joined by Brian Wheeler, Executive Director of the Big Hole River Foundation (BHRF). Brian provided a summary of the river foundation’s water quality monitoring program. He also discussed invertebrate sampling on the Big Hole River.
About the program: The BHRF’s water quality monitoring program was first created in 2019 to address a significant data gap on the Big Hole. Then in the spring of 2020, the Sampling & Analysis Plan (SAP) for this project was approved by Montana DEQ. Today, BHRF collects nutrient, sediment, and temperature data at 10 sites along 150 miles of the Big Hole, including from three primary tributaries, between April – October along with macroinvertebrate sampling each fall at 6 sites.
